What is Steampunk ?

;”> Wikipedia gives us a very good explanation of the steampunk movement. Too long to copy it here but do some research and you’ll see. When I try to popularize the style (not the philosophy) I say that my steampunk jewelry is what the punk of the steam engine era would have liked to wear. Steampunk always has an air of 19th century science fiction/fantasy. Jules Verne is a perfect example, it is an Edwardian and even Victorian universe.
In contrast with the computerization, and the “cybertization” (:-D) of our time with its printed circuits and its chips, the steampunk universe is a universe of cogs, leather and steam machins .
My steampunk jewels are created from old mechanical watches t I buy on flea markets and dismantle to recycle their parts. It is always a pleasure to discover what a case hides and I really admire the work of the old watchmakers

Brooches – 3 in 1 jewelry

A customer who likes my Gustav Kimt style steampunk pendants asked me if I could make brooches in this style. I had never made one before and it gave me the idea to make a 3 in 1 modular piece of jewellery , a brooch that can be transformed into a pendant and a necklace.

A brooch alone, on the reverse you can see the tube to wear it as a pendant is on the needle

the brooch is paired with a black leather lace – 4, a black metal tube -2, 2 chain elements with clasp- 3, ( I add swarovski crystal beads to match the swarovskide crystals on the brooch) and a ring strap -1

Beach Treasures-Pick of the Day

I went for a walk on Keraude beach to collect shells .
Here are my finds from Saturday and Monday. There is not much glass because in France it is recycled. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the purple mother of pearl bearded mussel but I’m going to be able to make some nice pendants with the pearls and oysters adding bronzes to them The pebble should be fine for a painting

After coating some amonias and an oyster lid with crystal resin to give them a wet look and strengthen them, today I used them by adorning them with hand-modelled bronze pieces and freshwater pearl cabochons. It’s really not worth buying south sea mother of pearl, , our Breton beaches are littered with treasures
